Whether you are planning a baby shower safari that is small and intimate for close family and friends, or something grand and elaborate for the whole world to see, a simple checklist will keep you organized and help you stay within budget. This is especially true for large gatherings where even the tiniest change can have a dynamic impact on your baby shower, and send things spiraling out of control.

Planning a baby shower safari for a small gathering isn't as involved, but should be treated with the same amount of care when creating your checklist. The important thing to remember when developing your checklist is to make sure everything is accounted for and on a time line that is manageable. You will be surprised at what you come up with as you build your list.

At the very minimum your baby shower safari checklist should have the following:

* Budget

* Date

* Venue

* Guest List

* A Theme

* Decorations

* Invitations

* Gift Registry

* Caterer

* Preparing and Serving Food

* Managing/Coordination

* Games

* Party Favors

* Opening Gifts

* Photographer

* Thank-You Cards

While the above is certainly not an exhaustive list and does not account for all possibilities, it should give you a solid foundation for creating a checklist to keep you focused on your target date and well within budget.

Besides the obvious items on your baby shower safari checklist as you are planning a baby shower, there is the matter of the time line. Although you can throw together a successful shower in a relatively short period of time, it is better for your sanity if you plan early. You will need a minimum of 4-6 weeks to plan for a large shower, and you can probably pull off a smaller one within 2-4 weeks. The tricky part is securing a date.

Try to secure everything, from the guest list and venue to the caterers, as soon as possible. For instance, once the invitations go out, follow up to find out who is coming. Set a time limit. As you near the date of the shower the momentum really starts to pick up and you will be faced with a greater amount of decision-making. When planning a baby shower safari, the more you have crossed off your checklist early, the easier it will be to deal with any last-minute changes.

One last thought: It can be quite a challenge for a person who has other responsibilities that demand her attention. If you are planning a baby shower safari and need help, don't be afraid to ask someone to co-host the event with you.
